I STAY - WHERE THE LUXURY IS

While I'm quite willing to slum for good food, I am not willing to for accommodation. My preference for hotel stays run to the luxurious. I work hard and I will damn well play hard and enjoy myself!

I Stay: Colonial Suite Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur @ Kuala Lumpur

March 9, 2015

I had the opportunity to spend a night at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur not very long ago. Owned by the prestigious YTL Hotel Group, the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur promised a level of luxury that I hoped would live up to the name.

I was put up in the Colonial Suite in the Majestic Wing, the old wing of the hotel as it were. The check in is performed in room, and the rooms are accessible by a separate and private lift, through the Colonial Cafe. The concierge was waiting for me when I arrived at the appointed time, and the lift to the rooms are accessible using a key card system. Even visitors are cleared first by a phone call to the room. The butler takes you through the room, which is a one bedroom suite. The living room area is large and plush, but I found the bedroom a little small. There is a sliding wardrobe with the usual amenities – bathrobes, slippers, iron, hair-dryer, safe etc.

Four Points by Sheraton was, I was told, a refurbished hotel, which I was told, was terribly run down. Having seen some pictures of Four Points, I was quite pleased to note that it was new, clean and had a pleasant environment, the moment you step into the open air lobby to check in.

The room was a regular room and we were given a sea-facing room, which was a pleasant surprise. There is a huge plate window in the room, with a lovely view of the sea just beyond.

There is a basic desk and chair which I feel doesn’t serve much purpose, since there’s a nice sofa and coffee table in the room already. But I suppose it’s there to make the grade.

The floor is mostly wood, with a square of carpet under the beds. It makes sense because it will be kept cleaner and show less wear than carpet, and in a beachside hotel, where sand may be tracked into the room, it would be easier to keep clean.
