Luxury has a name and it’s The St. Regis, Singapore.
A chance work opportunity brought me to this 5 star luxury hotel in Singapore, an experience never to forget, and unless I strike the lottery, not likely to repeat!
I had a room to myself, which was a King-sized deluxe room. Some rooms have twin beds, but I was fortunate to have a whole king-sized bed to myself. Upon welcome, you are greeted with a platter of chocolates and sweet desserts. Mmm… perfect, when you have no time to grab any lunch!
The room was large and bright, with curtains and blinds that were remotely controlled from your bedside. I found the bedside consoles a little dated.
The day bed was large and can comfortably sleep one. A lovely place to lounge on in the afternoon, if you have the time. There is a large television with numerous international channels to allow you to channel-surf. All perfect, if all you want to do is to just relax and do nothing but stay in the room all day long. It was very comfortable, with a decent work station for those who might want to get in a little work before play.
The bed was comfortable, being soft yet firm. You don’t sink into the bed as is wont to happen with very soft beds, and it allowed for a good night’s sleep. You can request pillows to suit your preference, and the air-conditioning was suitably cold but not too cold. Adjusting it was easy and painless, unlike in many hotels I’ve visited.
The room was very large and spacious, which was certainly luxurious. The large windows do look into a condominium next door, that isn’t too far away, so I’d recommend you keep the blinds drawn, lest you unwittingly perform a striptease.
The bathroom is accessed through sliding doors and is huge!
Mine had a free-standing bath right in the middle of the room, which I naturally took advantage of. There are ample toiletries provided, with 2 wash basins so you never have to fight for bathroom space. There is also a separate shower stall with a very lovely rain shower system, and toilet. Towels were plentiful, plush and comfortable on skin.
The rooms come with a personal butler service, to address your needs. Call them if you’d like some coffee or tea or even to turn down your bed or draw your bath before you return from a hot, sweaty shopping trip.
Breakfast was plentiful, with a substantial buffet, as well as a small menu from which you can order hot food. Try the lobster omelette, which is a signature St. Regis Singapore breakfast.
Hotel guests have access to the wet areas of the Remede Spa, which is worth a visit. There are cold plunge pools, hot pools, jaccuzi, steam room and sauna, with even an outdoor pool that you can relax in to soak away the day’s stresses and weariness. Male and Female areas are separated, and there are no children, which makes for a more comfortable experience.
Location wise, The St. Regis Singapore is located just off the main shopping belt, putting it in a slightly quieter area. Not a bad thing, and as the roads of Singapore are relatively safe, you can walk from the hotel to the much busier Orchard Road area, to get your shopping fix. That said, if you were staying at the St. Regis, the odds are, you’d take a taxi instead.
It’s a very expensive hotel by any standards, so if the opportunity presents itself again I’d love to revisit. But it’s far too expensive to indulge in from my pocket, even by my luxury level standards.
