I Eat: Crack Pork Cafe @ The Strand, Kota Damansara

July 21, 2015

I’d been curious about Crack Pork for a while, ever since I started following their journey on Instagram. Starting from the humble beginnings of making roast pork (siew yoke) which were sold at various bazaars and by order, a little cafe was opened with the very clever name – Crack Pork. The downside (for me) is that it was located in Kota Damansara – not a place I frequent.

crack pork cafe

Inhabiting just half a shoplot, Crack Pork is narrow and cosy with its minimalist interior and small menu. It’s not that hard to find, but it’s easy to miss. I found the plain white on black signboard a little hard to see. The glass walls without much explanation about what this place is, is also adds to the confusion. Is this a cafe? Can I go in? Are those seating available? Answer: Yes, yes and yes.

I Eat: Delaney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant @ Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

May 28, 2015

Update: On my latest visit in May 2016, I was informed the restaurant has undergone new management. They did not have most of the things on the menu e.g. the Beef and Guinness Pie I featured here, and some sausages. The steak ordered medium came well done and the Fish & Chips had shrunk in portion size, with a bready coating over bland fish. The Guinness did not have a good head and did not taste as good as before. I’m never going back and I no longer recommend this at all. The review rating is updated to reflect this.

I was in the area one day and felt in need of a cold drink. Drink being a euphamism for alcoholic beverage. I remember Delaney’s Irish Pub from a long time ago. They’d moved around a little, but they’d always been there at the edge of my consciousness. I can’t remember why I went only once before this – I think it was poor service. Or maybe I have it confused with another Irish Pub. Either way, I felt the pull to visit so I did.

Delaney’s is located behind Federal Hotel, on the ground floor and if you’re coming from Low Yat Plaza, it’s easily visible. Happy Hour on beer and selected drinks run from 5pm to 9pm so naturally, I had a couple of drinks.

I Eat: Ming Xiang Tai Pastry Shop @ Jalan Burma and Lebuh Armenian, Penang

April 16, 2015

I’d never heard about this supposedly famous and very old pastry shop in Penang until quite recently. On a road trip with friends one day, we stopped by to take a look and try their pastries.

Apparently, the original shop is at Jalan Burma and I can tell you that it’s pretty hard to find because it’s quite a small, unassuming little shop. The bigger one is at Gat Lebuh Armenian offers more parking opportunities and is easier to move around in. That’s where these photos came from.

Ippudo Set Lunch @ Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur

April 10, 2015

Now that GST (Goods and Services Tax) has been levied here in Malaysia, I am a little more picky about eating out so I limit myself to eating out as a treat as opposed to a regular occurrence. One such treat found me one day at Ippudo, Bangsar Shopping Centre.

ippudo ramen

Now, Ippudo is known for their ramen, but from past experience, I knew that their ramen was costly. So, the reason I was here was because I saw that there was a set lunch menu for RM29.90++ a set! I think it will change from time to time, but I thought I’d show you what I had.
